IELTS AND PTE are the examinations that test your English proficiency and a good score in those give you an impactful resume during the visa interviews. However, there is a major difference between the two. Many students do not prepare for either of them if they have studied one of them. Here is why you need to train yourself separately.
1) IELTS & PTE – Difference of structure
Both these tests have a similar structure when we focus on reading, speaking, listening and writing. There are specific features in the patterns of the test content that make them different from one another. The IELTS involves live communication with an examiner. Here, the speaking abilities of the candidate are examined and recorded in a device. However, in the PTE Examination, the candidate needs to speak into a microphone and the speech is recorded into a computerized system. This program of the computer evaluates the speaking abilities of the candidate and rates the test taker. The IELTS Examination is a paper based one and uses a graph, diagram or a chart for testing the writing skills of the candidate. The PTE examination, on the other hand, uses the computer to evaluate the candidate with innovative and unique techniques.
2) The Pattern And Scoring System
PTE is based on a complete automated scoring pattern and it grades the candidate on a band of 10-90. The IELTS examination scores are manual and the candidate is rated on a band of 0-9. Those candidates who take the IELTS test will get their results after 13 calendar days post the test whereas takers of the PTE examination will receive their scores online after 5 business days.
3) Location And Dates For The Tests
The IELTS Academic Tests are conducted in over 900 centers in more than 130 nations at 48 pre-fixed dates. The IELTS General Test is conducted on 24 pre-fixed dates in a year. The PTE Academic test center is located in over 50 nations across the world and can be taken on any date in one year that is subject to the seat availability in desired centers. In India, there are PTE centers in more than 15 cities.
